The Boburu Falls is located within the Nuwara Eliya district while the trail starts in the Badulla district (Parawella village). Bomburu Ella is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Sri Lanka.

The waterfall is fed by the principal tributary of Uma Oya known as Dulgala Oya. The Dulgala Oya was known as Fort McDonald river during the British era.

The waterfall belongs to the Sitha Eliya Kandapola Forest Reserve.

Beside the principal waterfall, there are about 10 small waterfalls scattered in the immediate surrounding. This can be regarded as a unique feature of Bomburu Ella.

A visitor has to walk around 1/12 km to reach the waterfall. The trail falls through a beautiful patch of forest. The dozens of streams along the trail provide a unique experience to the visitor. Half the trail falls on the edge of a shallow stream with crystal water.

There are some stalls run by the villagers along the trail where a weary visitor can sip a cup of tea with a rotti

A legend associated with Bomburuella.

It is said that the royal tusker of king Rajasinghe (1635-1637 AD) had strayed into the woods. The mahout had failed to chain the tusker. Therefore, it is said that the king had declared that anyone who could bring back the tusker would be offered a handsome reward. An elderly person living in the area Wanasinghe Mutta had braved to catch the tusker. He had been able to tie the tusker to a root of a bo-tree in the village. Hence people began to call the village Bo-mule . With the passage of time the name came to be used as Boburu gama.
